As you may know, the City of Hoboken has commissioned a memorial to be built in tribute to those who we have lost on September 11, 2001 and to the way our community was transformed by this experience. Today, we are poised to complete this project and we have a beautiful design for the memorial, which will be located on Pier A on the Hoboken waterfront. We have the prestigious winner of our design competition — the team of artist Janet Echelman and architect Jeanne Gang — working with us to begin the construction process.

We hope to collect stories and memories as told by you, individuals connected to our City of Hoboken. Please click on "Share your story with us" at the top of this page to share your memories of that day, of the days following, and your contact information. We hope to read experiences from Hoboken's residents, from those evacuated by ferry to Hoboken, from those who gathered at Pier A.

Selections from these shared narratives will then be drafted in the contributor's own handwriting. We will contact you specifically regarding obtaining your handwriting sample.

The final handwriting will then be cast in bronze on two handrails leading to and from the memorial island. Your narratives will tell the story of that day in your own words, and in your own handwriting, for future generations to come.

If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact Suzanne Hetman in my office at 201.420.2033.You and your family remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Very truly yours,

David Roberts
Mayor, City of Hoboken
